How to Hatch Animals

Why hatching is the real win condition

Stealing eggs feels exciting; hatching is what pays rent. Animals in your pen generate cash on a timer, and Survive Lava for Animals explicitly rewards offline earnings when you leave a healthy roster behind. Players who hoard unplaced eggs or AFK with empty pens fall behind even if their Speed looks impressive.

Pipeline: steal (Steal Eggs) → place → hatch → sort by income (Animals Tier List) → upgrade capacity (Upgrades).

Step-by-step hatch flow

  1. Return to your plot with an egg.
  2. Interact with a free pen slot / placement prompt.
  3. Confirm the egg is seated (visible in the pen).
  4. Start or finish the hatch action until an animal appears.
  5. Check income tooltips and equip-best options if present.
  6. Immediately plan the next steal or a sell if the animal is weak for your bracket.

If placement fails, you are probably at capacity — buy pen / plot upgrades before the next lava run.

Pen capacity discipline

Capacity is a soft skill gate.

  • Full pen + great egg in hand = emergency sell of your lowest earner or emergency capacity upgrade
  • Full pen + mid egg = often skip the steal and train Speed instead (Train Speed)
  • Empty slots + idle time = you are wasting offline potential

Never end a session with stealable eggs sitting unplaced “for later” if slots exist. Hatch first, then log off.

Offline earnings best practices

  1. Fill every slot with the best animals you currently own
  2. Replace Grass fillers once Desert+ hatches land
  3. Claim offline payouts the moment you rejoin — then decide spends
  4. If you will be gone a long time, prefer stable high earners over speculative empty slots waiting on a future Mythical attempt

Selling and replacing

Selling feels bad; stagnant pens feel worse.

  • Compare the new hatch’s income to the lowest penned animal
  • Keep collection / badge animals only if you still have spare slots after income picks
  • Do not sell your only mid-biome earner to chase a cosmetic flex

After major patches, re-check rates — Collect ALL Animals can retune pets (Updates Hub).

Equip versus pen storage

Some UI states distinguish equipped animals from penned ones. Rule of thumb: follow the in-game income breakdown. If equipping boosts cash, equip your S-tier picks; if pen occupancy alone pays, focus on filling slots. Either way, empty pens earn nothing.

Common hatching mistakes

  • Racing back to steal while an egg sits unplaced
  • Ignoring capacity until Ancient eggs are wasted
  • Keeping twenty micro-earners instead of fewer strong ones when upgrades lag
  • Spending all cash on trails before the pen can hold hatches (Trails Tier List)
  • Using auto-place scripts blindly until the pen fills with C-tier junk (Scripts Hub)

Session template

  1. Claim offline cash
  2. Hatch anything pending
  3. Sell obvious duds
  4. Train briefly
  5. Steal one targeted egg
  6. Hatch again
  7. Buy capacity or a practical trail if needed
  8. Repeat, then log off with a full pen

New players should still finish Getting Started before optimizing sell thresholds.

Hatch quality versus hatch quantity

Early on, quantity wins because any animals beat an empty pen. By Beach and Underwater, quality wins: one strong hatch can out-earn three outdated fillers. Re-read income tooltips after every biome jump. If the newest animal does not beat your weakest slot, either sell the weak slot preemptively before the next steal or skip low eggs entirely.

Collection goals and biome badges are fine hobbies, but they should not block capacity needed for income pets that fund Train Speed and Survive Lava practice.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I place an egg in Survive Lava for Animals?

Return to your plot, use a free pen slot prompt, confirm placement, then complete the hatch until an animal appears.

Why can I not place more eggs?

Your pen is at capacity. Sell weak animals or buy pen/plot upgrades before the next steal.

Do unhatched eggs earn offline cash?

No. Offline earnings come from hatched animals in the pen. Hatch before you log off.

When should I sell an animal?

When a new hatch clearly out-earns it and you need the slot, or when the animal is outdated for your biome bracket.

Should I hatch Grass eggs late game?

Only if you have spare slots. Otherwise prioritize higher biome eggs that match the Animals Tier List.
